Hannah grew up in Unionville, Missouri in a large, diverse family with six full siblings and four step-siblings. She spent her childhood navigating the many differences and learned to put them aside to create a strong family bond. Hannah excels at listening, finding common ground, and understanding and supporting individual viewpoints. She was exposed to diverse personalities and religious and political beliefs from an early age.
Throughout her education, she continued to diversify her beliefs and understanding of the world around her, pursuing her education at Bob Jones University and her medical education at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Hannah says her true calling emerged from “a desire to empower others to overcome the obstacles hindering their personal growth and fulfillment.” At a young age, Hannah initially became interested in mental health because of her passion for understanding the complexities of the human mind. Her passion took on a deeply personal dimension when an immediate family member was diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was 19. Witnessing the impact of mental illness within her own family profoundly influenced Hannah’s decision to pursue psychiatry. It sparked a realization of the importance of compassionate and evidence-based care in addressing mental health challenges. It led her to reflect on the stigma surrounding mental health within certain communities, including some of her groups. She found it disheartening to witness individuals being labeled rather than receiving the support and treatment they needed. This experience fueled her commitment to advocating for holistic and inclusive approaches to mental health care.
Another deeply impactful experience was volunteering on a medical mission trip to Guyana, South America. The experience of seeing a profound need for medical attention in a remote, small village left a lasting impression on Hannah. While grateful to offer assistance on a mission trip, it was not enough. She craved deeper connections and a long-term impact. This feeling grew stronger during her clinical training, especially when working in a pediatric inpatient hospital. Coming face to face with children as young as nine struggling with thoughts of self-harm reinforced her commitment to making a meaningful difference in many lives. This final experience ultimately cemented her dedication to the field of psychiatry.
Hannah treats a wide range of emotional challenges and conditions including anxiety, depression, OCD, mood disorders, PTSD, and many others. Hannah enjoys hearing her patients’ stories, fostering insights, and cultivating goals while helping them overcome obstacles and find fulfillment. Mental health is a journey that nobody should walk alone. Hannah believes that understanding who a person is and helping them become the best version of themselves is extremely important and rewarding.
Hannah treats with nurturing compassion, which was developed through various life experiences and meaningful interactions with others. She is described as empathetic, pragmatic, engaging, and a great listener. In her own words, “I am drawn to a holistic approach to healthcare, and I recognize its applicability may vary for each individual.” As she has done her entire life, she embraces flexibility and an open-minded outlook which enables her to tailor unique treatment plans for each patient, fostering effective problem-solving and personalized care.
Hannah developed a deep appreciation for diverse viewpoints and the power of connection from childhood. It is her power to understand and connect that helps her collaborate and help others overcome and thrive. She finds Psychiatry of the Palm Beach’s mission, “Helping you live your best life”, as deeply motivational and powerful. We all have gaps and areas where we need help in the team sport called life. She enjoys listening intently to understand what her patients care about and to collaborate on those areas. Finally, Hannah finds that personal growth and self-realization are powerful tools for mental health.
Hannah enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking, pickleball, biking, hiking, and spending time at the beach. She is an avid reader, reading over 100 books a year! With a sense of adventure, Hannah has tried cliff jumping and skydiving and enjoys trying new things.
