What do patients say about Nathan Howard?
Nathan Howard was raised on the West coast of Florida and studied at the University of Florida, obtaining his Bachelor of Science with Magna Cum Laude distinction. He continued with his medical education at Garner Webb University in North Carolina. During his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, Nathan became increasingly interested in the field of Psychiatry. A key influence was his thesis on “Chronic Pains Impact on the Brain & Subsequent Depression,” which was published in the University of Florida e-Library in 2014. The scientific insights Nathan learned from his thesis inspired him to pursue a career positively impacting others in the arena of mental health.
Nathan’s primary passions in life are meaningful relationships and mental wellness. Nathan identifies the synchronous practice of these passions as his purpose in life. Amid his research in college for his thesis project on the strong relationship between pain and depression, Nathan felt enlightened and inspired and upon graduation pursued his medical degree.
Nathan’s long-standing passion for mental health is proven. Since graduating with his medical degree, Nathan has had psychiatric experience across various settings and diverse populations. In his own words, “What makes mental health important to me is the profound positive impact, that I’ve experienced personally, that receiving therapy and psychiatric care can have on one’s life… getting the help I needed helped me feel positive again about life and able to perform one of my passions, basketball, at a high level.” At Psychiatry of the Palm Beaches, Nathan provides psychotherapy and psychiatric care to all his patients, which has been his career dream.
Nathan Howard is an experienced psychiatric practitioner, having spent years on a crisis stabilization unit working to help those in severe mental and emotional distress. He also spent years performing outpatient psychiatry where he realized that he wanted to spend more time with his patients, a more meaningful therapeutic relationship. This steadfastness in his life purpose of meaningful relationships and mental wellness led him to Psychiatry of the Palm Beaches. After years of providing psychiatry care to patients in a variety of settings, when Nathan sought out his next psychiatry position he wrote a letter passionately expressing his philosophy of helping others reach their mental health potential. The practice philosophy of actively “helping you live your best life” inspires Nathan every day as he makes long-term connections with his patients and helps them be the best versions of themselves. Every day he finds it extremely rewarding to help individuals overcome emotional and psychological barriers and feel well. In each session, he is present to bring the impactful support and insights needed, whether medical or emotional support and share encouraging truths with patients in their life’s journey.
Nathan Howard’s philosophy of care was inspired by his experiences as a young adult. He started as a senior in high school experiencing back pain, which impacted his emotions and performance as a basketball player. The impact of pain and the pressure to perform, although undiagnosed, likely left him with mild depression. The combination of timely therapy and a little medication made a profound positive impact on his mental health and his life. He went on to play collegiate basketball and learned how to achieve peak mental health performance. Nathan learned that peak mental health is just as important, if not more important, than peak physical health and mental health strongly influences physical health. Nathan takes pride in delivering consistent and compassionate psychiatric care and “helping you live your best life.” Having experienced both physical pain and the paralysis caused by performance expectations, and overcoming these challenges, to then perform both academically and in college basketball gives him an understanding of how to help others overcome and succeed.
Those who know Nathan are impressed by his quiet humility. He would rather listen to others discuss their accomplishments and take pride in their achievements. Nathan’s interests include sports of all sorts, spending time outdoors, tasting new cuisine, exploring different cities, listening to music, and spending quality time with his loved ones. He is close to his wife, brother, and both parents, who are still together living in Florida.
