What Is Sara’s Educational Background?

Sara grew up between the Florida Keys and Delaware before returning to Florida for college. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University, where she earned her first undergraduate degree in Forensic Science and Criminal Justice. Her early academic interests reflected a deep curiosity about behavior, psychology, and an understanding of what shapes the choices people make throughout their lives.

During college, Sara worked as a research assistant, helping a professor collect information for a book on criminal profiling. That experience gave her an early perspective on the complexity of human behavior and the many factors that influence emotional health. It also deepened her interest in understanding people beyond surface behaviors and began shaping the empathy she brings into psychiatric care today.

She later returned to school and completed her advanced degree. After years of bedside experience, she went on to earn her graduate degree in Psychiatric Mental Health from St. Thomas University. Her diverse educational path gives her a broad understanding of both physical and emotional health, allowing her to care for individuals with a holistic perspective.

What Led Sara to Psychiatry?

Sara was inspired to pursue psychiatry over time through both professional and personal experiences. Before entering nursing, she worked as a therapist for children with autism, providing one-on-one care in their homes. She worked with children across a wide range of developmental needs, helping them manage behavioral challenges, strengthen communication skills, and build connections with those around them. She also worked closely with parents and siblings, seeing firsthand how deeply one person’s struggles can impact an entire family.

Those experiences taught her the importance of individualized care. Every child needed something different, and every family carried their own story. That understanding stayed with her as she transitioned into nursing and later emergency medicine.

While working in emergency care, Sara frequently cared for patients experiencing significant mental health challenges. She worked with adults and children who were facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and crises that often extended beyond the immediate medical issue. Through those encounters, she saw how deeply mental health influences relationships, work, school, and everyday quality of life. She recognized how often patients simply needed someone to listen without judgment and support them in a way that felt safe.

Those moments ultimately led her to psychiatry. Sara wanted to work more closely with patients in understanding what they were experiencing and creating long-term plans that support healing, growth, and stability.

How Does Sara Treat Patients?

Sara approaches patient care with a collaborative mindset. She believes the best outcomes happen when patients feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their treatment. She takes time to understand each person’s experiences, goals, and challenges, creating a care plan that feels personalized rather than prescriptive.

Her background in emergency medicine also shaped the way she works with patients. In fast-paced environments, she learned how important it is to quickly understand what someone needs and communicate in a way that helps them feel safe. That same adaptability carries into her psychiatric care. She works to meet patients where they are emotionally and support them at a pace that feels manageable.

Patients often describe Sara as easy to talk to because of her calm, approachable nature. She believes genuine conversation creates the foundation for trust and that meaningful treatment starts when patients feel comfortable being honest. Her goal is always helping you to live your best life, not just through treatment, but through building tools that support wellness every day.

What Is Sara’s Philosophy of Care?

Sara believes that mental health care works best when it looks at the whole person. While medication can be an important part of treatment, she also values therapy, lifestyle habits, and practical strategies that support emotional well-being, as well. She understands that healing is different for everyone and believes treatment should reflect each person’s unique circumstances.

Her philosophy is rooted in partnership. She wants every person to feel like an active participant in their care and believes meaningful progress happens when people feel empowered in the decisions affecting their health. She works to create an environment where patients can talk openly, ask questions, and feel supported through every stage of their journey.

Sara also believes emotional wellness extends beyond appointments. When appropriate, she may incorporate mindfulness, breathwork, and practical coping techniques to support emotional regulation. She values simple daily practices that help patients feel grounded and believes that healing often happens through small, consistent steps that create long-term change. Her focus remains centered on helping you to live your best life by building sustainable tools for emotional balance.

What Does Sara Do Outside of Psychiatry?

Outside of work, Sara enjoys experiences that help her stay grounded and connected. She loves traveling both within the United States and internationally and values the opportunity to experience new cultures and perspectives. She also enjoys being near the water, whether paddle boarding, boating, or simply spending time outdoors.

In quieter moments, Sara enjoys reading, puzzles, and wellness practices that support mindfulness. Yin yoga and breathwork have become especially meaningful parts of her routine and have strengthened her appreciation for the connection between emotional and physical health.

Friends and family often describe Sara as warm, caring, and easy to talk to. She values genuine connection and brings that same energy into patient care. Her patients often describe her as calm, understanding, and nonjudgmental. Many share that they feel listened to and comfortable speaking openly with her. Sara believes trust is one of the most important parts of psychiatric care, and she is committed to helping every patient feel supported while helping them to live their best life.
