What Does Stephanie Do outside of Psychiatry?
Stephanie grew up in Florida and has spent the past seven years dedicated to the healthcare field. She received her medical education at Chamberlain University, where she pursued her passion for mental health care. Her educational journey was shaped by a desire for both personal and professional growth. Alongside her formal education, Stephanie’s personal life experiences have played a meaningful role in shaping her approach to care.
Having navigated significant transitions that required self-reflection and reinvention, she understands the emotional complexity of change and identity. These experiences strengthened her empathy, self-compassion, and ability to hold space for individuals as they move through their own chapters of growth. Coming from a family with deep generational roots, Stephanie brings an appreciation for patterns, context, and healing; elements she believes are essential in thoughtful, effective mental health care.
Stephanie chose psychiatry because she has always been drawn to the deeper stories that shape people’s lives. Throughout every role she held in healthcare, she noticed how emotional pain often went unseen or untreated. She felt called to be part of the solution, to hold space for those experiences and help individuals reconnect with their sense of self. To Stephanie, psychiatry is a calling, allowing her to support others in reclaiming their peace, clarity, and inner strength.
Through her work in case management, she supported patients navigating chronic health conditions alongside depression, trauma, and anxiety. She witnessed firsthand how closely physical healing was tied to emotional wellbeing. As she began listening more deeply to the root causes holding patients back, she knew she wanted to go further. This realization led her to become a psychiatric provider who treats the whole person, not just a diagnosis.
During her training, Stephanie worked with a patient who had endured years of trauma and initially struggled to trust the therapeutic process. Over time, as safety and connection were established, the patient began to open up and engage more fully in her healing. Watching her find words for experiences she had carried silently for years reinforced Stephanie’s belief in the power of compassionate, patient-centered care. Psychiatry allows Stephanie to be present for every person during their most vulnerable moments, a responsibility she approaches with deep respect and intention.
Stephanie leads with warmth and compassion, providing empathy and fostering resilience in her patients. Her background in both clinical care and case management gives her a broader perspective on what patients are navigating. Stephanie listens closely, follows through, and respects where each person is on their journey. She approaches every person with openness and respect for their values and beliefs. She believes people can feel when they’re genuinely cared for, and that’s what Stephanie brings into the room.
Stephanie uses a collaborative and individualized approach with her patients, leading to growth and results for her patients. “I want every patient to feel like an active participant in their treatment plan, not just a recipient. My goal is to meet people where they are and help them move forward in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.” -Stephanie Mills
Growing up, Stephanie was always very imaginative. She gravitated toward creative expression and used journaling and movement as ways to process her emotions. Her personal background has helped her connect with patients who may not always communicate in traditional ways. She is comfortable exploring different approaches to healing and believes that flexibility and creativity are essential when supporting someone through their mental health.
Stephanie’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that healing happens when people feel seen, heard, and empowered. She believes in treating the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) and honoring their unique experiences. Stephanie believes recovery is not linear, and that her role is to be a steady support through their mental health journey, helping patients tap into their own wisdom and strength. Stephanie is passionate about meeting a patient where they are at and working with them to create a treatment plan that helps them fully thrive and live their best life.
Stephanie enjoys exploring new restaurants and experiences, especially with good company. She is passionate about writing, particularly storytelling and poetry, which helps her stay grounded and reflective. Nature and music play a big role in her wellness routine. She finds joy in curating beautiful and calming spaces, whether at home or in the environments she creates for patients.
Stephanie’s friends and family would describe her as grounded, nurturing, and intuitive. Her patients often describe her as easy to talk to, present, and nonjudgmental. Many of her patients have said that she creates a sense of calm and safety, even in difficult conversations.
